Old Swansea dry ski slope mooted to become a restaurant now set to end up as something else

Swansea's former dry ski slope could soon be home to a number of industrial units.

Plans have been put forward by Carman Developments Ltd to build seven industrial units on the site, which sits behind Morfa Shopping Park.

If given the go ahead, the proposal would see a single-storey building made up of seven units built on the land, as well as 40 car parking spaces and a loading bay behind the units.

The former ski slope opened in 1989 but has become an eyesore after being left untouched for more than a decade.

A planning statement outlining the plans details how it would provide "vital local employment".

It reads: "The proposal would result in the introduction of a row of seven high quality industrial units.

"It is felt that the proposal will complement the surrounding residential and commercial uses and offer the area with additional employment opportunities for local people.

"The proposal is considered an acceptable form of development in principle which will result in the introduction of a high quality employment use which will complement the area and the adjacent Morfa Shopping Centre and provide vital local employment opportunities for local people."

It is hoped that the units would be filled by local businesses as it is in a "highly sustainable" location.

The statement goes on to say: "The site is in a highly sustainable location which will cater for local residents and linked trip shopping at the adjacent Morfa Shopping Centre and offer residents with good employment opportunities and start up businesses.

"It is envisaged the commercial units will provide commercial space for local businesses."

Plans were put forward to transform the derelict land with a drive-through restaurant and shops two years ago, however, issues surrounding drainage at the site have meant that its outcome is still yet to be determined.

Before that, a multi-million pound indoor snow dome was also proposed at the site.
