Old School RuneScape Adds New Boss Encounter in Latest Update

Old School RuneScape has added a new boss encounter in its recent update. Yama, the Master of Packs, is the new endgame duo boss fight available for RuneScape members. The fiery boss is part of the fan-favorite questline, “Great Kourend,” which was last updated in 2021.

Yama, The Master of Packs

Old School RuneScape Adds New Boss Encounter in Latest Update

A new power has awoken after the events of “A Kingdom Divided.” In the Chasm of Fire, underneath Kourend, Yama, a fiery winged minotaur demon, bides his time as he gathers power. With the Disciples of Yama under his control you can expect to face off against some formidable foes. If players manage to defeat these lesser demons, they’ll be able to grab contracts that will allow them to reap bigger rewards once it comes time to face off against Yama. Be warned though that bigger rewards also come with bigger risks!

Yama threatens Gielinor and players will need to be stacked on items and armor if they hope to defeat him. Players can either take on Yama solo or with clanmates or friends. With the new update, players will find that the Chasm has been overhauled with a new mining activity, where players can farm for Crimson Lovakite, and a smithing area, allowing players to prepare additional items or armor they might need before the boss encounter.

Yama Boss Rewards and Requirements

Defeating Yama will reward players with plenty of loot, such as the Chasm of Fire Teleport Scroll, Demon Tallow, Oathplate Armour, a Grimoire Page, and many other items depending on the game’s drop rate.

Players who want to participate in the Yama boss fight must complete the “A Kingdom Divided” quest. Completing the questline before facing off with Yama will also give players some much-needed lore and serve as a warmup. If they’ve already completed the “A Kingdom Divided,” they can suit up with their Best in Slot gear or use Gold to purchase necessary gear, consumables, skills, and other items to be in the best shape when facing Yama. With Yama’s teleportation mechanics, players may also want to consider purchasing gear that increases their movement speed, like the Graceful Outfit in OSRS.

Yama Boss Mechanics

Players will need to strategize and hatch a plan if they hope to defeat this boss. Yama has three phase mechanics and knowing what each does will give players an advantage.

In the first phase of the boss fight, Yama will have an attack signaled with purple smoke or a ring of flames; the only way to dodge the attacks is to step on either black or orange-colored glyphs on the ground. When Yama emits purple smoke, players will need to step on the black-colored glyphs, and when he emits a ring of flames, players will need to step on the orange ones. Luckily, Yama has a pattern when using his first boss mechanic. The patterns for the attack are either black, orange, black, orange, or orange, black, orange, black. Yama will also unleash black and orange flames in the boss arena, where players must step on the corresponding glyph to avoid damage.  OSRS

When Yama is at 60% health, he’ll teleport players to the Judge of Yama. The encounter with the Judge will consist of an obstacle course with lava. Players and their squad must reach the Judge while trekking through the course. Players will need to be agile and quick on their feet as they avoid any attacks thrown by the Judge. It’s best to use a mix of melee and magic attacks to take down this boss.

After defeating the Judge, players will be sent back to Yama. The second phase of the boss fight will begin when Yama says, “Veni estella Infernus.” At this point, he’ll perform a one-shot attack that can be dodged by stepping on the orange glyph. He’ll continue to perform the second phase boss mechanic alongside his standard attacks. After players get Yama’s health down to 30%, he’ll teleport them back to the Judge, and players will need to complete the same obstacle course and defeat the Judge once more. After that, players will be sent back to the arena for the third and final phase of the boss fight.

In the third phase, Yama will summon void flares that will explode after 10 seconds. The flares will heal Yama and damage players when they explode. Players must destroy the void flares before they detonate to avoid damage and prevent Yama from healing. Keeping that all in mind, players will also need to dodge fireballs being hurled at them by running away perpendicular to its direction.

From teleporting to summoning flares, players will need their wits about them and be extra cautious when facing off against Yama. However, knowing his mechanics will help players defeat this boss with ease.

Gamers who want to try out Old School RuneScape can get the game on Steam, iOS, and Android. OSRS comes with cross-platform progression, which means players can face off against Yama on the go or in the comfort of their homes.
