Old RTE clip resurfaces showing Leo Varadkar grilling Micheal Martin on Questions and Answers

An old clip from RTE show Questions and Answers in which Leo Varadkar asks Micheál Martin a question about vaccinations has gone viral.

While the two have been colleagues in Government for a number of years, the clip far predates those days.

It shows the current Tánaiste as a member of the audience on the former RTE panel show.

A fresh-faced Mr Varadkar puts forward a question for the panel, which includes Mr Martin.

He says: "How would the panel address allegations that the pharmaceutical industry tested vaccines on children without consent?"

The short clip then cuts to Mr Martin answering the question.

He responds: "These children should not have been used for vaccination trials. At all. And I think it's unacceptable that they were."

While we don't have an exact date on the episode in question, Mr Martin served as Minister for Health from 2000 to 2004 as part of the Fianna Fáil Government led by Bertie Ahern, so we're guessing it's between then.

The show came off the air in 2009 after over two decades of success.

Earlier this week, Mr Varadkar shared an "ideal" reopening date but refused to make any promises ahead of the big indoor dining decision next week.

The Tanaiste shared the latest timeline with a final announcement on the return for the hospitality sector expected next week.

Mr Varadkar said Cabinet will meet on Tuesday, July 13, to discuss the latest proposals after a number of meetings with industry leaders.

He told RTE's News at One: "We would intend to bring proposals to government and to Cabinet next week, next Tuesday. I can't say for certain that we will be able to implement them on the 19th of July, that would be ideal, but I can't say that for certain.

"But like I say, we are working on a number of options at the moment and we would hope to bring proposals to Cabinet next week."
