Portobello Promenade might be losing its charming watering hole Dalriada in the near future, but it's not all bad news at the beachfront.
The old public toilet building at the eastern end of the promenade, just off Musselburgh Road, is set to be turned into an upmarket fish bar.
It is being taken over by the team who run The Boathouse, a popular pub which opened at the other end of the promenade last year.
The building has been vacant since 2016 and was put up for rent by Edinburgh city council in May 2019.
Portobello's new fish bar is due to open in the summer of 2020. The owners are trying to decide on a name for the eatery.
The Boathouse posted on Facebook saying: "I guess it's no secret that we were the successful bidders for the lease on the former public toilet facility at Joppa.
"We hope to open this summer and you'll be pleased to know that we will be honouring the terms of our lease and making our toilets available to the public, something that end of the promenade desperately needs.
"Beyond that, we have very exciting plans to transform the building into an upmarket seafood bar. Alongside traditional fish and chips, we will be offering a selection of fresh fish and seafood, cooked to order."
"We'll show you some drawings once they are finalised but I promise you it's going to be very special."
Names suggested so far include Joppa Rocks Seafood Bar, Neptune, Sirens and The Wee Seafood Bar.
