An old pagoda collapsed during renovation at Wat Phraya Tham Voraviharn in Bangkok Noi district around noon on Tuesday. Eleven workers were injured, two badly.
The two-century-old pagoda was built during the reign of King Rama II at the temple on Soi Arun Amarin 15 in Chang Lor area. Eleven workers, nine men and two women, were trapped in the debris. They were extricated and taken to Siriraj Hospital, according to the Erawan rescue centre.
Two were badly hurt, their legs injured by the steel rods they were carrying at the time.
The pagoda first subsided, and then collapsed, Thai media reported.
Police were investigating.
