Old normal: Gujarat schools go offline today

AHMEDABAD: The school uniforms have been ironed, the shoes cleaned, and books neatly arranged in the bags. Early morning rush is now set to be a routine in households. Nearly two years after they closed following the outbreak of Covid-19, the schools – right from kindergartens to senior sections – will begin functioning normally from today.

This, after the state government granted the schools permission to operate in a limited capacity from Monday.

The numbers of students attending the class will remain restricted as per the standard operating procedure. The kids in kindergartens will not be able to play or have food together for a few more days.

There are some 20,000 playschools across the state. With educational activities shifting online in the pandemic, pre-schools have been the worst-affected institutions.

Jitu Vaghani, education minister and state government spokesperson, on February 17, had said that the government had decided to reopen schools and colleges “fully for offline classes”. The announcement was made during the core committee meeting chaired by the CM.

The focus in the latest announcement had been anganwadi and kindergarten students because online education was not possible for them and they remained closed for nearly two years.
