A conservation group in Lop Buri is organising a special exhibition which features a collection of pictures of old Lop Buri. As part of Thailand's celebration of Unesco's recognition of the royal glass-plate negatives as a Memory of the World, the exhibition "Flaunting The Past Photos" takes place at Somdet Phra Narai National Museum in Lop Buri starting today.
The oldest pictures of Lop Buri date back to the reign of King Rama IV, when photography became popular. Pictures of the old palace, renovated by the king who made use of the facilities on his trips to this province, are also on exhibit. Several places featured in the old photos, which are on loan from the National Museum Bangkok and private owners, have since disappeared as the province has developed.
The highlight of the event will be a talk about old photos and their value given by a range of experts, such as Phuthorn Bhumadhon, a key figure of the Conservation and Environment Protection Club of Lop Buri, today at 9am. The exhibition opens daily, except Mondays and Tuesdays, until July 15.
