Old Kilpatrick villagers take on skydive to fund a defibrillator

A group of villagers took on a daring skydive in a bid to install lifesaving equipment in Old Kilpatrick.

A paramedic from the area contacted Sheenah Nelson, who is the Heartstart co-ordinator for Helensburgh Garelochside Rotary and has helped train hundreds of people locally to become lifesavers, to get the project off the ground.

Although there are currently two defibrillators in the village, neither is able to be accessed 24 hours a day and Sheenah assisted them in fundraising to reach their goal.

One of the group, Stephen Smith, is a member of Skydive Strathallan and organised the Team OK skydive event to enable them to raise the much needed funds thanks to the support of family, friends and local businesses.

The event took place on August 10 but, due to poor weather conditions, only two of the group managed to do their jump. The others however have rearranged their dive to take place later this month.

Sheenah said: “We wish them every success and are delighted to support them in raising funds for three defibrillators for Old Kilpatrick.”
She added: “Once these livesaving machines are in place, we will be delighted to deliver Heartstart/defibrillator training for the community of Old Kilpatrick.”
