Two pals who were inseparable in their teens but lost touch more than 70 years ago have been reunited at a care home.
Marion Darbyshire, 91, and Winnie Shaw, 94, became friends while working six days a week as sewing apprentices.
But they went their separate ways when Winnie left Coops factory in Wigan, Lancashire, to marry and start a family, Mirror.co.uk reports.
Marion, who never had children, went on to have a long career at the firm.
Now, 73 years later, staff at Lakeside Care Home say they spend their days “causing mischief” after spotting each other at dinner.
Marion, who moved in after battling Covid-19 in hospital, said: “I couldn’t believe it when we were sat at the table for dinner.
"I said, ‘Is it Winnie Shaw?’
“I thought there can’t be many Winnies around – and it was her.”
Marion, who struggles to walk and while living alone relied on her niece and nephew to do her shopping, is happy in her new surroundings.
She added: “I feel lucky to have my friend back, we get on just as well now as we did back then.”
Winnie, a grandmother of eight and great-grandmother of four, added: “I couldn’t feel happier that we’re reunited and get to reminisce.
"It’s lovely to have a friend.”
