Old Firm referee Bobby Madden to take charge of Ayrshire derby between Ayr United and Kilmarnock

It's all eyes on Ayrshire this week as one of Scotland's biggest derbies gets set to take place.

And fresh from the powder keg of the Old Firm, top whistler Bobby Madden has been assigned officiating duties at Rugby Park just seven days on.

Madden, who took charge of Celtic against Rangers at Parkhead, will be the man in the middle in East Ayrshire on Wednesday night.

The Fifa official has taken charge of just one game each involving Ayr and Killie this season.

He refereed United's 1-0 League Cup win at Hamilton way back on July 20 before taking charge of Killie's 2-0 defeat at Hibs in the same competition on August 15.

Madden usually plies his trade in Scotland's top tier as one of the country's elite officials and can also be found on the continent as part of the Champions League rota.

But he has been handed the big fixture in Ayrshire as both sides of the divide collide.

Killie have held the upper hand in the fixture this season so far, winning 2-0 at Rugby Park back in August before a late Oli Shaw penalty separated the sides at Somerset Park in October.

Now the old rivals are set to clash twice in the space of little over a month as they renew hostilities in their rearranged New Year game this week.

Kilmarnock will then visit Somerset on Friday, March 11 in front of the BBC Scotland TV cameras.
