Old Didsbury police station to be turned into flats

One of Didsbury’s most iconic buildings is going to be turned into flats.

The former village police station, on Wilmslow Road, was closed down a number of years ago as the force began selling off properties to raise money for new stations.

Now the 100-year-old building has been bought by HUS Property Developments and planning applications have been approved to build six two-bedroom flats.

The new apartments will feature balconies and private rear gardens, as well as including some of the building’s original features such as the old police lamp.

A spokesman told the Manchester Evening News that they are wanting to breathe life back into the building.

“We are planning to keep some of the existing features at the front of the house but make the inside of it contemporary as well,” he said.

“The current property is in quite a state, it’s been disused for quite a while.

“We want to put life back into it really - that’s what we have planned.”

The spokesman said the planning application has been approved, and the company are currently waiting for the building regulations approval.

He said they will likely start building in a month.

“We were interested in the property for quite a while,” he said.

“We started enquiring about it last year just before the pandemic and we purchased it at the start of this year.

“It’s a beautiful building.”

HUS Property Developments are a family-based Manchester developer that specialise in residential and commercial projected in and around Greater Manchester.

"The Old Police Station is a project that's very close to my heart having been brought up and raised in Didsbury," the spokesman added.

"The historic building has been boarded up for quite some time now and it will great to see it breathe life again.

"We have worked very closely with our architect who has designed the apartments to keep the original facade of this building whilst creating exciting and contemporary living inside."
