Historic home: east Yorkshire. There’s a £320,000 price tag on this solid-looking house in the village of Bubwith, near Selby. Historic home: Greater Manchester. This three-bed grade II-listed Georgian townhouse is in Worsley, a village six miles outside Manchester on the banks of the Bridgewater canal. It’s not for those who don’t like steps – you climb to the front door and accommodation is arranged over three floors – but there is plenty of living space. Downstairs boasts a separate lounge, dining room and kitchen/breakfast room, while the first floor has a huge bathroom and a double bedroom. Unfortunately the staircase to the last two bedrooms is from that room. Cost: £295,000.

New build: West Sussex. Fans of sea and sand may be attracted to this four-bed detached house just 200 yards from the beach in Selsey, near Chichester. The newly-refurbished property has a stunning kitchen-diner (with floors that look dangerously glossy), a utility area and conservatory, a lounge and study, and one en suite bedroom. The rear garden is expansive and fully enclosed. It’s yours for £399,950.

New build: Kent. Another one beside the sea, this time at Westgate-on-Sea. A hefty £450,000 is needed to buy a two-bed apartment in this striking development overlooking the waves. Work hasn’t begun so you’ll be buying off-plan, but the developers promise high-spec kitchens, a balcony or patio area for each of the nine flats, and a sea view for everyone. There is controlled parking and a cycle store, and the high-speed rail link to London can be accessed at nearby Ramsgate.
