OLB Brooks Reed expected to come off PUP soon

The Arizona Cardinals opened training camp with six players on the physically unable to perform list. They all have some injury that is keeping them from practicing at the start of training camp.

Coach Kliff Kingsbury was asked about the status of those players and he said that most of them are still “day-to-day” but one player could be back soon.

“I think Brooks Reed is one that I saw his name come up,” he told reporters before practice on Friday. “I expect him back soon.”

Reed is nursing a hip injury of some sort.

He was brought in this offseason after he was released by the Atlanta Falcons. He plays with a high level of effort. He knows the defensive system, having played for the Houston Texans to start his career. He is expected to be part of the defensive rotation at outside linebacker.

Currently, behind starters Chandler Jones and Terrelle Suggs, the only other player at the position with any proven experience in the league is Matt Longacre, who signed this week.

Reed’s return will help with the depth at the position.
