A campsite in the town of Okutama, located in northwestern Tokyo, is attracting many residents from the capital, even though Tokyo has been excluded from the Go To Travel tourism support campaign launched by the government exactly one month ago on Saturday.
Tents sporting various colors were lined up Saturday at the Hikawa Campsite along the Tama River, and people were seen enjoying their holidays on the riverside.
According to Okutama Sougou Kaihatsu Inc., which operates the campsite, the venue has taken measures against infections from the novel coronavirus, such as thorough alcohol disinfections and ensuring safe distances between tents.
The site is fully booked for the next weekend. However, the number of visitors is less than half of a usual year because the number of people in each group is limited to five and all campers are required to make advance reservations.
