Oklahoma OT Cody Ford’s bench press halted by shoulder tightness

The 2019 NFL Scouting Combine drills got underway Thursday, as the offensive linemen kicked things off with the bench press test. For one of the top prospects, it didn’t go exactly how he would’ve liked it to kick start his week.

Oklahoma tackle Cody Ford was given 19 reps during his turn and took a long pause after his 15th rep before finishing out the set.

The reason for Ford’s pause was because he felt tightness in his shoulder prior to, which caused his inability to reach the number of reps that he was originally shooting for, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport:

Despite dealing with some muscle tightness, there does not appear to be any concern about a serious injury. Ford is expected to bench again at Oklahoma’s Pro Day workout on March 13.

This minor incident should not effect his draft stock, as he’s currently projected as a first-round selection. He will look to make up for the bench portion during the rest of the drills Friday.
