Oklahoma City notched their biggest win over the Spurs on Sunday evening, defeating San Antonio 131-103 inside Chesapeake Energy Arena.
Led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s 22-point, 13-rebound double-double, the Thunder shot 57.5% from the field and 45.5% from 3-point range.
Steven Adams also posted a double-double, going for 21 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
The Thunder set a new franchise record with eight different players in double figures. In addition to SGA and Adams, Lu Dort had 15, Dennis Schroder scored 13, Chris Paul and Danilo Gallinari each had 12, while Nerlens Noel and Abdel Nader both added 10 apiece.
The 28 points are also the largest margin of victory over the Spurs in franchise history. According to Maddie Lee of The Oklahoman, the previous record was a 19-point win back on March 26, 2016.
LaMarcus Aldridge, who had been averaging 28.7 points and 10.7 rebounds in three games against the Thunder this season was held to a quiet night, scoring just eight points on 3-of-10 shooting from the field.
Noel had said that the game plan coming into Sunday was “just to bother” Aldridge.
Dejounte Murray, who also scored 25 in the game between San Antonio and the Thunder on Feb. 11, picked up a couple of quick fouls. He ended the night scoreless, going 0-of-7 from the floor.
DeMar DeRozan was also a non-factor as Oklahoma City held the Spurs’ leading scorer to just 11 points.
But DeRozan was part of history on Sunday night when he was stripped by Chris Paul late in the second quarter. The steal was the 2,208th of Paul’s career, moving him above Clyde Drexler for seventh on the NBA’s All-Time Steals list.
With the win, the Thunder have now won 12 of their last 15 and finish the regular-season series against the Spurs 2-2.
Oklahoma City will face a significant test over the next month as they play nine of their next 14 games on the road.
