Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt proclaims Wednesday ‘Nick Collison Day’

With the Thunder set to retire the jersey of Nick Collison on Wednesday, Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt has also elected to honor the former No. 12 pick in the 2003 NBA Draft.

The mayor tweeted out a picture of an official proclamation naming Wednesday as “Nick Collison Day” for his accomplishments with the team since moving to Oklahoma City.

“Though never an All-Star or an MVP, Nick Collison epitomized the selflessness, worth ethic, loyalty, leadership, the professionalism that characterizes the Thunder’s team culture,” the proclamation said.

Collison spent 15 years with the Thunder/SuperSonics organization and was one of two players (Russell Westbrook) to have spent the first 10 years of the Thunder era all with the team.

As the organization prepares to honor Collison, several former Thunder and SuperSonics players are expected to be in attendance, including Kevin Durant and Raptors center Serge Ibaka.

Collison retired second in all-time games played for the franchise and will be the first number to be retired by the Thunder.

The ceremony is set to begin at 8 p.m. CT and can be seen on FS OK.
