
Okinawa Prefecture logged 335 new cases of novel coronavirus infections on Saturday, hitting a record high for the second consecutive day.
The prefecture had reported 313 cases on the previous day.
In Tokyo, there were 539 new infection cases on Saturday, down 63 from a week earlier. The capital's daily tally was lower than the figure logged on the same day of the previous week for the 16th day in a row.
Six people in their 70s to 90s were confirmed to have died in Tokyo.
According to the Tokyo metropolitan government, the seven-day moving average number of new cases in the capital was 571, or 87.8% of the previous week's figure of 650.4. The number of seriously ill COVID-19 patients was 78, up eight from Friday.
