OKC Thunder news: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander under concussion protocol

The Oklahoma City Thunder announced Thursday afternoon that guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has entered the NBA concussion protocol.

In the statement, the Thunder confirmed that the injury occurred following two plays late in the game. The first happened at the 1:29 mark of the fourth quarter and the second happened at the 1:13 mark. Gilgeous-Alexander finished with a season-high 39 points in 38 minutes.

The first occurred on a hard Daniel Theis foul as Gilgeous-Alexander drove to the basket. Gilgeous-Alexander’s head bumped off of the court with a loud thud noise.

The second occurred on the next offensive possession as Garrison Mathews gave Gilgeous-Alexander a hard foul.

Gilgeous-Alexander was able to finish the game and even spoke with the media afterward.

The point guard will not be out for an indefinite amount of time as he is required to pass a series of steps before cleared by the NBA to return.

The Thunder play the Memphis Grizzlies tonight, but will then have three days off until their next game against the Detroit Pistons on Monday, Dec. 6.
