OKC’s Mayor weighs in on Paul George’s departure

Losing an MVP-caliber player isn’t easy for a franchise to handle, and it’s not exactly fun for the team’s fans either. Unfortunately for the Oklahoma City Thunder and their fans, the team has now gone through this experience twice, having lost Kevin Durant in the past and now Paul George, the latter of which is heading to the Los Angeles Clippers to play with Kawhi Leonard.

But George’s departure is different. In part because it’s the second time something like this has happened to the Thunder. Though this experience is still unique in its own way since George was still under contract through 2021-22 after making a four-year commitment to the Thunder just last offseason. The Thunder were still planning to roll with a group very similar to the 2018-19 team, up until a few days ago when George requested the trade.

Needless to say, the move came as a shock to everyone. And, as is the case with anything, everyone has their own way of dealing with situations like this.

For Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt, he has mixed feelings. On one hand, he appreciates George. On the other, he doesn’t seem too pleased with the way stars are handling things in the NBA.
