OKC players, staffers test negative for coronavirus

All the results for Thunder players and staffers have come back negative for the coronavirus, according to Marc Stein of The New York Times.

Oklahoma City had been potentially exposed to the virus on March 11 when they were preparing to host the Utah Jazz.

Jazz center, Rudy Gobert, had already been ruled out of Wednesday night’s game and was not in Chesapeake Energy Arena, but was still with the team in Oklahoma City when the Utah medical staff received his positive test results just moments before the scheduled 7 p.m. tip-off.

Per ESPN’s Royce Young, the Thunder were not tested for the coronavirus that night, and instead, the team underwent a fever test before being allowed to leave.

The Thunder released a statement on Wednesday afternoon saying that the team “consulted with infectious disease experts for a recommendation on the players and staff who needed COVID-19 testing based on their exposure” and that all tests were negative.

The organization emphasized that they did not use state resources, citing the “stress on the state of Oklahoma’s medical system”, instead choosing an “alternative path for testing of its personnel”.

On March 12, Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell also tested positive for the virus.

In the last week, seven players across the league have received a positive diagnosis including the Pistons’ Christian Wood, as well as Brooklyn’s Kevin Durant and three other Nets players.

Last Thursday NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced an immediate suspension of league activities for a minimum of 30 days.
