You all are letting the furry demons inside of your homes so let’s discuss what in the world is going on with the Labubu craze. From someone who does have two Labubus and one Lafufu.
Known as monsters, Labubu’s are collectibles from Pop Mart that went from being a rare find to a national craze. There are entire locations with games meant to win you a Labubu. I would know, I won both of mine that way. But they do have a background that isn’t just furry things we all became obsessed with. Labubus were, originally, characters created by artist Kasing Lung.
Lung’s book series The Monsters that he illustrated back in 2015 featured a tribe of elves. Those elves? Labubus. So I guess all those little monsters are ladies. We really do rule the world. “That’s why I wanted to create something that I’ve always known existed in my heart,” he said in an interview with CGTN Europe in March. “It’s amazing that so many people love it.”
If you were hopeful that the craze would die down, please note that Lung did say there are “100 different Labubus” in the series. So I don’t think the craze is going to die down anytime soon but it is interesting that it took 10 years for this to really pick up. They are everywhere!
It is like any other phase where people become obsessed and then will eventually move on but for now, people are obsessed with the concept of a Labubu. They have to collect them all and it is taking over. I mean I get it, I have gone into the same store to try and play a game to win won multiple times now. But at the end of the day, these little monsters are taking over and we can’t stop them!
