Officials of the Oita prefectural government, wearing face shields, enjoyed eating and drinking on Friday night in Oita in an experiment on how to have a party in the "new normal" brought about by the coronavirus pandemic.
The prefectural government and the Oita Sake Brewers Association planned the parties to support restaurants that wish to operate while trying to prevent the infection. About 60 volunteer participants ate and drank at three restaurants while wearing improvised face shields made from plastic file folders and rubber bands, and talked with each other while covering their mouths with handkerchiefs.
"I was not used to the face shield, so it was hard to eat and drink. I think it is necessary to figure out what each of us can do from now on," said Norifumi Kudo, chief of the prefectural government's policy planning section.
