Oisin McConville fears Monaghan could rediscover their mojo against Armagh

Oisin McConville fears that Monaghan could rediscover their mojo against Armagh this evening.

Malachy O’Rourke’s side flirted with relegation in the League before being sent packing in the first round of the Ulster Championship by Cavan, their first defeat to their neighbours in the Championship since 2001.

They rode their luck in the first round of the qualifiers against Fermanagh and appear vulnerable with Armagh coming to Clones this evening in round two.

McConville said: "You would be hoping that Armagh could get over Monaghan. It's a dangerous one, almost more dangerous for Armagh because anyone that I have been chatting to have been saying that Monaghan are a team who look as if they are really struggling.

“I've seen Monaghan before and they have bounced back. This team, especially over the last couple of years, they have thrown in some surprising results but they have always bounced back from them.

“They are a team devoid of confidence but the Fermanagh game will have brought that on another step so that's the one maybe.”

Jarlath Og Burns is set to feature at midfield for Armagh again today despite being hospitalised after the defeat to Cavan and McConville has been pleasantly surprised by the influence the youngster has had.

“I probably didn’t realise he’d have the immediate influence that he had because he didn’t actually play a lot of League football, he was sort of in and out,” said the former Armagh star.

“I think he’s fresh coming into the Championship and probably the biggest thing about his development is the last two/three years.

“I think being part of a county set up has really helped him. The coaching has really helped him so his progression has been accelerated big time in the last couple of years. He has everything.”

VERDICT: Monaghan
