Ohio State WR Terry McLaurin could be the Will Fuller Plan B Texans need

On Thursday, the Texans Wire was on a conference call with NFL Network  draft expert Daniel Jeremiah about what wide receiver prospects there are between the Houston Texans’ 54th and 86th picks who could help the injury prone receiver corps.

While Jeremiah admitted that “corner and tackle are probably priorities” in Houston, he did have a few suggestions nonetheless.

Said Jeremiah: “It just kind of depends on what you want. I like Travis Fulgham a lot from Old Dominion. I like Keelan Doss from UC Davis.”

However, the player who stood out was one who has already been worked out by the Texans, Terry McLaurin.

“He’s the speed guy, so if you want to kind of ensure against an injury which we’ve seen in this team with the offense, how it changes a little bit without Will Fuller, Terry McLaurin from Ohio State is somebody that can replace that, and it would be a nice complement to him when he’s out there, but if you have an injury with Fuller you want a flier,” Jeremiah said.

McLaurin measured in at the NFL Combine at 6-0 and 208 pounds, recording a stunning 40-yard time of 4.35 seconds. With that level of speed, he would be a great backup to speedster Fuller who is key to stretching the Texans offense and creating space for DeAndre Hopkins.

“I think he probably ends up going in that second-round range,” said Jeremiah. “I know there’s some talk about him in 1, but I think he’s more likely to go in the second round.”

If this ends up being the case, with the 54th and 55th picks in the second round the Texans could do worse than adding some much-needed depth at receiver.
