Ohio State women’s volleyball team receives AVCA Team Academic Award

One day after the Ohio State men’s volleyball team was recognized for academic excellence, the women’s volleyball team followed suit.

According to a release from the university Tuesday, the squad has earned the AVCA Team Academic Award as one of a record 1,314 teams to receive national recognition for the 2019-20 academic year.

To be eligible, a team must maintain a 3.30 cumulative grade point average for the academic calendar year. It is the second straight year, and sixth time overall the Ohio State program has been recognized.

“Coaches have the most influence during difficult times,” said AVCA Executive Director Kathy DeBoer. “Keeping student-athletes focused on their academic success when their volleyball identity was suddenly gone is leadership worth celebrating.”

According to the release, eleven student-athletes secured Academic All-Big Ten honors while 16 were named OSU Scholar-Athletes. Jordan Fry, Mia Grunze, Lauren Witte and Camryn Moeller finished the year with Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honors. Witte and Grunze also achieved perfect 4.0 grade point averages for the academic year.

Well done ladies.
