Ohio State women’s basketball: Tamika Jeter named assistant coach

A native Ohioan is coming home as an assistant coach for the Ohio State women’s basketball team.

Tamkia Jeter spent six seasons on the Ohio State coaching staff from 2002-2008 and was a two-time Ohio High School Player of the Year before winning two national titles at UConn. She also played in the WNBA and still holds the single-season FG % record of the league at 66.8% set in 2003.

She was inducted into the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013.

I’m excited to welcome Tamika, Richie and their children back to Ohio State,” said OSU head coach Kevin McGuff. “First and foremost, she’s going to be an outstanding role model for the young women in our program. Specifically as an Ohio native, she’ll be particularly impactful on the recruiting trail as we try to get the best players in the state to stay home. Her championship experience as a player and a coach is going to be extremely valuable as we continue to establish this program as one of the nation’s best.”

Jeter’s prior coaching stops include Kansas, Kentucky — and most recently — the three previous seasons at Penn State. Now she’ll be joining a Buckeye program that should be set up for future success with some great recruits coming in to go along with some experienced players.

Things are looking up in Columbus.
