Citing health privacy, Ohio State confirmed it will not release the results of any COVID-19 testing that takes place as a result of athletes returning, and the measures and tracing being put in place.
This comes on the heels of several other athletic departments confirming the results of testing. Alabama had several players test positive for the novel coronavirus, while others have confirmed that none of their athletes have as they all deal with getting back to workouts on campus.
An Ohio State spokesman told BuckeyesNow that “the university is not sharing cumulative information publicly as it could inadvertently identify specific individuals.”
While that makes sense on the surface, Ohio State has always historically been a little more conservative than other programs when it comes to health notices and information for its athletes. It’s not a bad thing, it’s just the stance of the athletic department to avert risk and promote privacy.
What will be very interesting as we head towards fall is how this all works with the weekly depth chart and availability communication the athletic department provides every Friday during game weeks.
