Ohio State vs. Cincinnati Bearcats Buckeyes Wire staff predictions

Week two is upon us, and this time Ohio State should get a stiffer challenge from a Cincinnati Bearcat team that gave Power 5 opponent UCLA all kinds of fits last week.

As we do every week, we asked some of our Buckeyes Wire staff to provide some predictions for the game and to give a short synopsis on why they feel that way. Here’s what they all had to say. Hint: There is a recurring them to all of it.

But know that Luke Fickell is bringing in a very dangerous team that can definitely make life interesting and miserable all at the same time on Noon Saturday.

Next … the predictions

Ohio State 38, Cincinnati 24

I say this one’s closer than many people think. The Bearcats defense is a solid unit and will make things tough at times for the Buckeye offense. In the end though, there’s too much depth and talent on the Ohio State sideline to pull off a shocker.

I look for a defensive struggle early on before Ohio State imposes their will with bigger, faster, stronger athletes and more depth. The Bucks will be up by a small margin at halftime before slowing pulling away in the fourth quarter.

Buckeyes will open up the read-option a little more tomorrow and allow Fields to run a bit more. Consequently, the passing game will look more consistent…closer to what we saw early last week. Ohio State prevails.

Ohio State 35, Cincinnati 20

This is one of those games that remain close at halftime because of all the emotions and familiarity. Because Fields makes a few big time passes in the second half that seal the deal.
