Ohio State's basketball team delivered a thrilling upset victory over No. 2 Purdue in a game that marked interim coach Jake Diebler's debut on Sunday. The Buckeyes defied expectations by outscoring the heavily favored Boilermakers 73-69, showcasing a stellar performance led by Bruce Thornton's 22 points and Jamison Battle's 19 points.

Following a tumultuous week that saw the dismissal of head coach Chris Holtmann, Ohio State's morale was uplifted by this surprising win, snapping a streak of nine losses in their previous eleven games. The Buckeyes displayed remarkable energy and determination throughout the game, taking a halftime lead of 35-30 and maintaining their edge through much of the second half.

Although Purdue fought hard to close the gap late in the game, Ohio State managed to hold onto their lead. Lance Jones' 3-pointer tied the score at 65, but clutch plays by Battle and Thornton in the final minutes secured the victory for the Buckeyes. Despite the efforts of Purdue's standout player Zach Edey, who recorded a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds, it was Ohio State who emerged victorious.
