Ohio State the only top-six team without a first-place vote in FWAA poll

The Ohio State Buckeyes remained at No. 5 throughout the majority of polls, but the FWAA’s new poll has them as the only top-six team without a first-place vote.

The Football Writers Association of America, FWAA, released their Week 1 Super 16 poll. Ohio State was No. 5 with Clemson, Alabama, Georgia and Oklahoma coming in at 1 through 4 respectively.

That’s assumed though.

The vast majority of polls have these first five in that order. Most even have Louisiana State at No. 6. However, most don’t also consider first-place votes, which is where the FWAA’s poll gets interesting.

Voters in FWAA’s poll were given a chance to put who they think should be NCAA’s top dog. The Buckeyes, although No. 5, received zero first-place votes.

At the same time, LSU, who ranked No. 6, received two. Obviously, Clemson (35) and Alabama (7) received the most. Georgia and OU received one apiece as well.

After a 52-point win over Georgia Southern, LSU must’ve impressed a few voters while Ohio State’s 24-point victory over Florida Atlantic wasn’t quite as domineering.

However, polls are just polls, and this one still has OSU as a top-five team so there’s really no cause for concern.
