The preseason Associated Press College Football Preseason Top 25 poll just dropped and we have good news, with a big ‘ole heaping of bad news. First, the good.
Ohio State is ranked No. 2 in the poll, behind just Clemson. That’s about on par with every other poll we’ve seen out there before all the news about a postponed Big Ten season came about. But, there’s of course some bad news too.
The ranking next to the Buckeyes and every other team that has decided not to play this fall has an asterisk the size of Michigan tagged alongside it. So yeah, it’s kind of putting lipstick on a pig at this point for OSU, it’s Big Ten brethren and the Pac-12 schools.
Anyway, the rest of the top ten behind Ohio State and Clemson are Alabama (3), Georgia (4), Oklahoma (5), LSU (6), *Penn State (7), Florida (8), *Oregon (9), and Notre Dame (10).
I don’t know if the folks at the AP Poll are wanting to do so, but including these teams with a big, fat asterisk next to them is like rubbing salt in the already fresh and seeping wounds.
Now, for the entire asterisk-laden AP Top 25 poll …
