Ohio State softball tosses combined no-hitter for 4-0 win over Army

It’s not often you get to see a no-no and a grand slam all in one softball game, but that’s exactly what we had Friday out in Palm Springs. And it all resulted in a 4-0 winning score over the Army Cadets.

Skylar Hayward started on the mound for Ohio State and tossed five innings of not hit ball, then gave way to Morgan Ray who polished it off the same way it started, combining for a no-hitter.

Offense was hard to come by for the Buckeyes as well, but it took just one swing of the bat to change that. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, Kaitlyn Coffman drove the first pitch she saw over the center field wall for a Grand Slam.

It would be the only offense for the Buckeyes, but it was more than enough thanks to great pitching and defense.

With the win, Ohio State improves its record to 5-4 and will take on Utah for the second time this season at 3:00 PM Saturday. The Buckeyes won the first matchup in St. Petersburg, Florida 10-2 in five innings.
