Ohio State softball’s Emily Clark and Lilli Piper selected by Cleveland Comets

It used to be that girls fast pitch softball had a ceiling. You could play through high school and into college but that was really the extent of it. A very few select girls could get the call for Team USA, but for the most part Division I college was the apex.

Not anymore.

There’s a women’s professional fast pitch league that now takes some of the better college players, and more and more girls are getting a chance to take a stab at furthering their careers after college.

And two of the latest to get that shot will be Ohio State players Lilli Piper and Emily Clark. Both are seniors and both were selected by the Cleveland Comets of the National Pro Fastpitch League last Monday night.

Piper was selected at pick No. 15 in the third round, while Emily Clark was taken with the first pick in the fourth round at No. 16.

Congrats to both of these ladies and well wishes in their chance to further their softball careers. Here’s to hoping that the growing professional league continues to expand and attract some of the best the game has to over.
