Ohio State softball knocked out of NCAA Tournament by North Carolina

Well, it was fun while it lasted. The Buckeyes started the Knoxville Region on a high note by taking down the ACC Tournament runner up North Carolina Tarheels, but from there things just didn’t come together.

Ohio State got blitzed by Tennessee late in the second game, fell to the loser’s bracket, then the Tar Heels got their revenge on the Buckeyes, winning 5-3 to send them home earlier than anyone wearing scarlet and gray wanted.

The game was scoreless for the first two innings, and then the ‘Heels put up a big five spot on the board to put the Buckeyes in a 5-0 hole that would be too deep to climb out of.

OSU was able to get two runs back in the bottom of the inning an Ashley Prange home run to cut the score to 5-2, then got one more in the bottom of the 5th to claw within two, but that would be it.

It was still a great season for Ohio State as it continues to make a move towards one of the premier teams in the Big Ten Conference. It finished in fourth place in the league and has now gone to the NCAA Tournament four-straight years.

The program loses some key pieces this offseason, but there’s no doubt the arrow is pointed up.
