Ohio State softball hammers Michigan State on the road

Very quietly, the Buckeye softball team is putting together a pretty good résumé that could bode well the postseason. But before then, there’s plenty of work to do to stay in arm’s reach of the top of the Big Ten.

Ohio State made good on that Friday by breaking out the bats in a 15-6 win over the Michigan State Spartans.

The Bucks found themselves in a hole early — giving up five runs in the bottom of the first inning in part because of a two-RBI double and two-run homer. But then things settled down, at least on the mound for OSU.

They began to heat up at the plate.

The Buckeyes finally got on the board in the top of the third inning when Kallie Boren launched a three-run homer over the center field fence to reel things back in at 5-3. That broke the seal on scoring for Ohio State, and from there the floodgates opened.

In the fourth inning the Buckeyes finally grabbed the lead 8-5 by banging out four hits and bringing five runs across the plate. The big hit came from Emily Clark who singled to bring in two runs and give Ohio State the lead 6-5.

The Buckeyes would go on to score seven more runs to put the game out of reach. They scored five in the fifth-inning and two more in the sixth.

With the win, the Buckeyes improve their overall record to 27-14 and their Big Ten record to 10-5. Both teams are back at it again Saturday at 11:00 AM, then again Sunday to close out the series at 1:00 PM
