Ohio State softball falls short against No. 1/2 ranked Florida State

The Ohio State softball gave it a valiant effort, but in the end the pitching of the defending national champions was just too much. Ohio State hung around with some good pitching and timely defense of its own, but mustered only one run, losing by a final score of 3-1 to Florida State.

Florida State’s Meghan King tossed a no-hitter through four innings until Ohio State’s Kaitlyn Coffman launched a two-out home run over the fence in right field to pull the Buckeyes to 2-1 in the fifth inning.

The Buckeyes threatened again in the sixth but were unable to get the big two-out hit to scratch across anymore runs. The Seminoles added one more run via the long ball in the sixth for the final score.

Pitchers Lauren Rice and Kat Duvall combined to hold the Seminoles to seven hits in the game, while the Buckeyes tallied four of their own.

Ohio State plays two games on Saturday. At 10 AM it takes on a top ten LSU team, then follows up against Utah at 1 PM.
