Ohio State softball beats Duke 6-0 in night cap

Let’s play two!

The Ohio State softball team beat the Utah Utes earlier today, then came back in the California evening and made it two in one day by downing ACC foe Duke 6-0.

Early on in the season, the Buckeyes have enjoyed some fantastic pitching, and that continued against the Blue Devils. Lauren Rice started in the circle and blanked Duke batters for a complete seven innings, allowing no runs and just five hits. Ohio State pitching has now gone 24 innings without allowing a run to cross the plate.

On the offensive side, OSU got things going early with three singles in a row that plated two runs in the top half of the first to make it 2-0. Emily Clark doubled in the third run in the top of the third inning, followed by another double right after to make it 5-0.

The scoring finished up with a home run by a hot hitting Kaitlyn Coffman in the top of the seventh inning. The freshman outfielder has been on a tear early on in the season, and continued with a 3 for 3 performance that had a double, home run and five RBIs.

The Buckeyes now sit at 7-4 after the victory and will wrap things up in Palm Springs Sunday against New Mexico State at Noon.
