Ohio State's Ezekiel Elliott: 'I didn't know my license was suspended'

Dec. 30--Ezekiel Elliott said Tuesday he didn't know his license was suspended when he was involved in a car accident Sunday afternoon not far from Ohio State's campus in Columbus, Ohio.

The running back was cited for driving with a suspended license, driving without a license and failure to control his vehicle while driving to campus as he prepared to leave for Arizona for the Fiesta Bowl.

According to a Columbus Police spokesperson, Elliott was the "at-fault" driver in the crash.

"I'm just glad no one was majorly injured," Elliott said. "That's the most important part. It was a scary situation. I'm really trying to put it behind me and focus on this game."

He will play Friday against Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl.

Elliott said he and his father are doing everything to get "my license back in good standing."

He said he had lost his wallet but had his passport on him at the time of the accident.

Elliott said he lost control of his car and it hydroplaned, causing him to collide with another vehicle carrying two people, one of which suffered minor injuries.

"It was a bad situation," he said. "The weather was terrible."

Elliott is the second-leading rusher in Ohio State history with 3,812 yards. He has 1,672 this season, to go with 19 touchdowns.

No. 7 Ohio State (11-1) will face No. 8 Notre Dame (10-2) at noon Friday.
