Ohio State’s Dominic Canzone named Big Ten Baseball Player of the Week

Ohio State outfielder and lead-off hitter Dominic Canzone has been named the Big Ten Baseball Player of the Week. And what a week it was.

Canzone has been tearing the cover off the ball this year, leading Ohio State in several offensive categories, but he had a week to remember. Canzone hit .545 by banking out twelve hits, 4 RBIs, all while crossing the plate a whopping seven times in a five game stretch.

He was even more impressive against one of the conference’s best pitching staffs, hitting .639 over a three-game series against Michigan. He collected a double, triple, two homers, four runs scored, and knocked in four RBIs to help the Buckeyes to a series win against the nationally ranked Wolverines.

He also continued his streak of reaching base to an unbelievable 33-straight games. Simply put, he is as hot as you can possibly get on the diamond, and the conference has taken notice.

It is Canzone’s first Big Ten Player of the Week Award and first for Ohio State since Jacob Bosiokovic back in 2016. He did garner a Freshman Player of the Week Award in 2017.

If he keeps anything close to this pace up, he’ll no doubt be recognized again before the season draws to a close.
