The first set of College Football Playoff Rankings are officially out, and Ohio State checks in at a bit of a surprising No. 4.
Now we finally have somewhere to start from. After all the speculation and debate about a shortened season and teams being compared to one another despite a difference in the number of games played during a pandemic, the Playoff Committee fell in line with pretty much what we thought aside from the Tigers getting a spot ahead of the Buckeyes.
Alabama is ranked No. 1, followed by Notre Dame (2), Clemson (3), Ohio State (4), Texas A&M (5), Florida (6), Cincinnati (7), Northwestern (8), Georgia (9), and Miami (10).
We have to remember that this will likely be a very fluid ranking process this year — even more so than normal — and just because a team is where it is today, that could change quickly with little room for error in 2020.
For now, though, Ohio State sits in pretty good shape when it comes to making its fourth College Football Appearance. All it has to do is get through the next three games and whatever team lies in wait in the Big Ten Championship Game.
All of those are very, very winnable.
