Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields falls down USA TODAY’s latest NFL mock draft

It seems Ohio State football players aren’t getting a whole lot of love from the national media types when it comes to the latest 2021 NFL mock drafts. Almost nobody is singling out more than one player in the first round as the college football season has wrapped up.

And now, we have another. USA TODAY released its latest first-round mock draft and has just one Buckeye player listed in the first round. Of course, you know who that player is, none other than quarterback Justin Fields. What you and almost everyone doesn’t know is where he will go?

Has he fallen below BYU quarterback Zach Wilson? What about Trey Lance of North Dakota State? Is there even a remote possibility that new Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer reaches and takes the Ohio State quarterback at No. 1?

We’ll all just have to wait until Thursday, April 29, to find out. In the meantime, here is what Nate Davis of USA TODAY says about Fields.

What Nate Davis says

“They’re not parting with Stafford to turn the keys over to Chase Daniel or David Blough. Fields is a multi-dimensional threat who was at his best with six TD passes against Clemson in the college playoff semifinals. However that performance was bracketed by several checkered ones, including his final one against Alabama. Still, Fields’ estimable potential suggests the Lions might even have to move up a few spots to get him.”

We can see this happening, but we can also see Fields going off the board before this, ahead of Zach Wilson. The former Heisman winner is more athletic and has a bigger upside than the BYU QB. But, it’s the NFL draft, so who really knows what to expect.
