Ohio State QB Justin Fields outruns his own RB to block on 64-yard rushing touchdown

Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields can do it all — and that includes blocking for his team more than 60 yards downfield from where he took the snap.

The No. 4 Buckeyes dominated Michigan State on Saturday and racked up a 28-0 halftime lead in East Lansing. And they made it a crushing 35-0 lead midway through the third quarter with a huge assist from Fields, who wasn’t actually carrying the ball.

On 3rd-and-1 from Ohio State’s own 36-yard line, Fields handed the ball off to senior running back Trey Sermon, who found an open gap in the Spartans’ defense and took off down the right side of the field. By the time Sermon crossed the 50-yard line, Michigan State senior safety Tre Person was right with him, and it looked like there might be a chance he’d catch Sermon before the end zone.

Enter Fields, who showed off his unbelievable speed by chasing down both Sermon and Person.

As soon as Fields saw the space in front of Sermon and Person nearby, he hit the gas. And, despite starting comfortably behind the line of scrimmage, he caught up to his ball carrier and provided a key block against Person, ensuring Sermon completed his 64-yard touchdown run.

Just unbelievable. And that was just one of several incredible plays from the junior quarterback.

Fields is a dynamic quarterback and one of the best in the game right now. But no matter how many monster plays he makes — whether they’re with his arm, on the ground or in the form of a big block — he regularly impresses.
