Ohio State QB Justin Fields granted immediate eligibility by NCAA

Justin Fields has been granted immediate eligibility by the NCAA according to multiple reports.

Fields transferred from Georgia to Ohio State in a much-publicized search, but being an undergraduate, needed a waiver from the NCAA to be able to play immediately rather than sit out a year per NCAA transfer rules. That exemption has been granted as of today.

This is good news for Ohio State, because the Fields arrival resulted in the transfer of former five-star QB Tate Martell. Rather than hang around Ohio State, Martell transferred to Miami and left the quarterback depth very thin in Columbus.

Fields was the target of racial slurs from a member of the baseball team at Georgia, and although we don’t know full details of other things beyond that, Fields’ attorney Tom Mars and those close to the situation believed that the sophomore-to-be QB had a very good chance of gaining the eligibility he desired.

Now it’s onward and upward with getting Fields up to speed so that he can compete for the starting spot this fall.

Game on.
