Ohio State QB Dwayne Haskins praises Mohamed Sanu for his mentorship

The top two quarterback prospects in the 2019 NFL draft are Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray and Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins. There’s a decent chance they will both get picked in the top 10 come the end of April. Murray may go No. 1 overall to Arizona if they decide to ditch Josh Rosen, while Haskins has been connected to the Giants. He’s from New Jersey and he’s apparently a fan of Big Blue, according to a report by Ryan Dunleavy at NJ.com.

Haskins has connections with the Falcons through another Jersey native: wide receiver Mohamed Sanu. While Haskins did not go to Sanu’s alma mater Rutgers, his best friend Mohamed Jabbie did, who is also Sanu’s nephew. Haskins says that Sanu’s mentorship has been a great tool for him as he prepares for his career in the pros, per Dunleavy.

“He means everything. . . As far as him playing quarterback in high school (for South Brunswick) to him making that jump to receiver and him playing really well for Atlanta. He’s given me all the tools to be able to learn how to work out as a pro. Being able to hang out with him in the offseason, he’s been a great tool for me.”

Haskins (6-foot-3, 231 pounds) was a Heisman finalist and has drawn comparisons to Drew Bledsoe by Lance Zierlein. He’s also been compared to an upgraded Mitchell Trubisky, so there’s no great consensus about what his ceiling could be in the NFL.

As for Sanu, he’s entering his fourth year with the Falcons and is under contract for another two seasons. Atlanta could save $6.25 million in cap room if Sanu is cut after June 1, but that would be a short-sighted move. Sanu has proven to be a valuable receiver, teammate and QB option.
