Ohio State plays solid half, still down to Maryland by five

It’s been a fairly solid first-half for Ohio State on the road against a ranked Maryland team. While that’s good news, the reality is that the Terps haven’t played their best game and still lead the Buckeyes 33-28.

While big guy Kaleb Wesson has struggled going against Bruno Fernanez down in the blocks, guard KeyShawn Woods has been a bright spot for the Buckeyes. The graduate transfer has ten points on 4 of 8 shooting in the first half and has played strong and confident with the ball on the outside with C.J. Jackson out of the lineup with a shoulder injury.

Ohio State will need more of the same from him in the second twenty minutes with the way the matchups are playing out.

Meanwhile Kaleb Wesson has struggled getting free down on the blocks. He has just two points on 1 of 6 shooting and seems bothered by the brute and length of Maryland’s front line.

Ohio State only has three turnovers, but has shot just 37.9 percent from the field to even out an advantage it’s rarely enjoyed with ball security.

This one’s still winnable, but we’ll have to see if the Buckeyes can get Wesson going, and if it can continue to limit turnovers but raise the temperature from the outside. They’ll likely need to do all of the above if there are designs of pulling the upset.
