One of the nation’s best offensive linemen is making a big decision on his football future, after his conference has decided not to play this fall.
Ohio State’s Wyatt Davis is declaring for the 2021 NFL Draft, telling Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports his reasoning for making such a difficult decision:
My family and I were waiting to hear any good news that there would be a possibility to play in the fall. As the weeks went on, after the initial cancellation, the news didn’t seem in favor that we would have an opportunity to play for a national championship if there was a season. At this point, my family and I made the decision that it would be my best decision to take the next step.
The Big Ten Conference voted to postpone their 2020 football season with hopes of playing in the spring, but top prospects like Davis might not be able to wait that long to make a decision about turning pro, given the offseason events that typically happen in the predraft process during those months.
Widely regarded as the top offensive guard prospect in the 2020 draft class, Davis is currently projected by most as a first-round prospect in next year’s draft.
