Ohio State now No. 45 in the NCAA’s NET Rankings

It’s that time of year where we look at the metrics that are out there to separate teams on the bubble. And make no mistake about it, the Ohio State men’s basketball team is trending towards bubble territory, if not already there.

While most projections still have the Buckeyes comfortably in the field, it doesn’t take much to change things when you’re living on the edge.

One of those sorting mechanisms for the NCAA Tournament Committee to use this year is the NET Rankings. It replaced the RPI, and it is supposed to be given some fairly significant weight, albeit just one component of many that are used to determine whether a team gets into the Big Dance or not.

To that end, heading into the Northwestern game Wednesday, the Buckeyes are sitting at No. 45 in those same NET Rankings. Needless to say, that’s danger territory, but still in a spot where it won’t hurt them too bad.

The name of the game now is to try and win as many games as possible. From there everything should take care of itself. Really, Ohio State controls its own destiny, but a couple more slip ups, and that won’t be the case.
