Ohio State No. 1 according to Detroit Free Press Big Ten Power Rankings

It’s always fun to get a perspective from an outside source, and even from enemy territory. In this case, that territory comes from behind the battle-front up in Michigan. The Detroit Free Press does a weekly Big Ten Power Ranking and you’d expect a bit more leniency to be given to Michigan, and a slanted eye towards Ohio State.

But so far that hasn’t been the case.

In its latest Big Ten Power Ranking, the Detroit new outlet has Ohio State as the top ten in the Big Ten — not Michigan. And it’s not the first time. In fact, the same held true last week and the week before. Even more so, the Free Press has historically been pretty critical of the Wolverine program and had no issue with taking a chance at wrinkling the khakis of one James Harbaugh.

Not only is Ohio State on top of its Big Ten Power Rankings, but Michigan is down at No. 3, just behind Wisconsin.

Here’s what Kirkland Crawford says about Ohio State:

Starting to become old hat, right? The Buckeyes systematically tear through their September opponents — this time, 51-10, at Indiana — and show to be impervious to anything the Big Ten has to offer. We remind you, it’s early. But we also remind you, Ohio State has more talent than just about anyone in the region.

Here’s the complete power ranking of all fourteen teams.

1. Ohio State
2. Wisconsin
3. Michigan
4. Iowa
5. Penn State
6. Michigan State
7. Maryland
8. Northwestern
9. Nebraska
10. Minnesota
11. Purdue
12. Indiana
13. Illinois
14. Rutgers

As we continue to see, this falls in line with more and more publications and websites coming around to the idea that Ohio State is again the best team in the Big Ten.
