Ohio State near the top of ESPN’s College Football Power Rankings after week five

Each week, ESPN’s Chris Lowe jostles his list of college football teams based on how he believes they look or how good he perceives they are (especially in the case of idle Ohio State).

After college football’s fifth week of games, he has updated those power rankings and he still has the Buckeyes near the top, but not No. 1 like the worldwide leader’s SP+ Rankings. Still, he’s got OSU ranked higher than a lot of other media sites and members that have begun to let recent performance on the field jade their view of how good Ohio State is.

The Buckeyes might be first in our hearts, but they’re not at the top of the pile according to Lowe. But where does the ESPN writer have OSU after this past weekend?

What Chris Lowe says about Ohio State

“Even before Ohio State got the news last week that two of its best players were returning, the Buckeyes already had the look of a top-5 team. But now that cornerback Shaun Wade and offensive guard Wyatt Davis have been declared eligible by the NCAA after initially deciding to turn pro when the Big Ten announced it wouldn’t play this fall, the Buckeyes have everything in place to win a national championship. And that starts with quarterback Justin Fields, who accounted for 51 touchdowns a year ago, including 41 passing.”
